Pohjois-Savon opisto, Northern Savonia Folk High School, is located in Kuopio in Eastern Finland. Our school was founded in 1895 and it is owned by Folk High School Association. Pohjois-Savon opisto is situated in southern Kuopio in a naturally beautiful environment right beside lake Kallavesi. Annually over 300 students study on our campus.
Pohjois-Savon opisto offers vocational education, basic education for adults and free-oriented education. Humak University of Applied Sciences’ Kuopio campus is also on our premises.
Vocational education
- We offer Vocational qualification in Education and Guidance, Competence area in communication and sign language instruction
- You will graduate as a sign language instructor
- After graduating you can work as an instructor for example in day care centres or schools

Our characteristic features
- Finnish sign language is our speciality. On our campus we train sign language instructors and Humak University of Applied Scinences trains sign language interpreters and community educators.
- We have our own school dormitory where students from outside Kuopio can stay during they studies.
- Our school is surrounded by rural environment and has a cosy atmosphere that support learning
Other services
- Weekend and summer courses and camps on various topics
- Our restaurant Koivukokki offers breakfast, school lunch and dinner both students living in our dormitory and private persons. Koivukokki also offers catering services and facilities for private, business and community meetings, festivities and parties.
